"No one else has put in as much effort for his country as he has," Alcaraz discusses Sinner's absence for the Davis Cup Finals
Following the ATP Finals, the last major event on the tennis calendar in 2025 will see the eight remaining nations battle for the title at the Davis Cup.
Who will win the 2025 Davis Cup? The Final 8 will take place from November 18 to 23 in Bologna, Italy. As the two-time defending champion, the Squadra Azzurra hopes to achieve a three-peat, but will have to manage without world number one Jannik Sinner, who has chosen not to take part in the finals of the most prestigious team competition in men's tennis in order to better prepare for the 2026 season.
A choice that is not going over well in Italy. His great rival, Carlos Alcaraz, will on the other hand be present to represent Spain and has discussed Sinner's absence for the upcoming tournament in the coming weeks.
"The schedule is very packed and difficult. Even more so for Jannik, who reaches the final in every tournament. He has already won the Davis Cup these last two years representing his country, playing in both singles and doubles.
I think no one else has sweated and put in as much effort for his country as he has. It's true that this is the first year it's being held in Italy and people wanted to see him at home, but everyone must make their own decisions and personally, I understand him," stated Alcaraz to Marca.
