Alcaraz Makes Winning Start at ATP Finals Against de Minaur
The ATP Finals in Turin kicked off this Sunday with a clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Alex de Minaur. While the Spaniard was heading towards a relatively comfortable first set, he ultimately missed 3 double-break opportunities before being broken by the Australian.
In the tie-break, de Minaur led 5-3 before collapsing and losing the tie-break. Following the tie-break, Alcaraz broke his opponent immediately in the second set but gave the break right back to the Australian.
But the Spaniard quickly regrouped and took control with a break and then a double-break. Alcaraz will play again on Tuesday against Taylor Fritz, while de Minaur will face Musetti.
Interviewed on court after the match, the Spaniard said: "It's always a pleasure to come and play here in Turin. I'm here for the title and the world number one spot. Alex is always a tough opponent, I'm happy with my first win and looking forward to the rest of the tournament."
