"I'm the oldest on the opposing team," Herbert discusses his reunion with Belgium in the Davis Cup

Selected by his captain Paul-Henri Mathieu to compete in the Davis Cup Final 8, Pierre-Hugues Herbert opens up about his upcoming reunion with Belgium, having already been part of the squad during the final won against them in 2017.

On Tuesday, November 18, France will face Belgium in Bologna as part of the quarter-finals of the 2025 Davis Cup. Herbert, who is logically expected to play the doubles in this match, was interviewed by the French Tennis Federation media just hours before meeting the Belgians again, who were the opponents of the French team in the 2017 final.

Herbert was part of the squad and therefore won the competition eight years ago, but he is aware that a lot has changed at all levels since then.

"A bit of time has passed. For me, the statute of limitations has run out, but it's not the same team. I'm the oldest on the opposing team. It has nothing to do anymore, it's a completely different competition too, with two singles and one doubles on a different format, but it's cool.

The Belgians are perhaps the ones we get along with best on the tour, the nation we are closest to. We are aware of their strengths, and at the same time, we really want to win, and I think it's the same for them. We are preparing for a big match," assured Herbert.
