End of career for Mahut: Frenchman falls in doubles with Dimitrov in Paris
The fine career of Nicolas Mahut officially came to an end this Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at La Défense Arena.
He had announced it in recent months, just days before Roland-Garros: Nicolas Mahut is playing the final season of his career. Aged 43, the Frenchman was still competing on the doubles circuit. Entered in the main draw in Paris partnered with Grigor Dimitrov, the native of Angers delivered one last great battle against the pair of Hugo Nys and Édouard Roger-Vasselin.
On Court 2, Mahut and Dimitrov fell in the super tie-break (6-4, 5-7, 10-4) and will go no further in the tournament. Nicolas Mahut began his career in 2000 and was a good singles player, winning four titles and reaching a career-high world No. 37 in 2014.
But it was mainly through his many doubles titles (37) that the Frenchman built an incredible record, winning 5 Grand Slam titles with Pierre-Hugues Herbert (Australian Open 2019, Roland-Garros 2018 and 2021, Wimbledon 2016 and US Open 2015).
A former world No. 1 in the discipline, he also won the ATP Finals twice with Herbert in 2019 and 2021, as well as the Davis Cup in 2017. Mahut will also remain famous for his extraordinary singles duel against John Isner in the first round of Wimbledon in 2010.
Opponents, the two men nevertheless wrote history together by playing the longest match in tennis history (11 hours and 5 minutes over three days). The American ultimately had the final say at the end of a unique encounter (70 games to 68 in the fifth and final set).
