Berrettini: "Ranking doesn't matter in the Davis Cup"
Italy wants to write a new page in tennis history: winning three consecutive Davis Cup titles.
Since the introduction of the modern Davis Cup format, no national team has managed to win three consecutive titles. The United States, Sweden, Germany, Spain, and the Czech Republic have all failed to meet this challenge. And today, Italy finds itself just steps away from a historic achievement.
Without Sinner and Musetti, Italy is placing its trust in Matteo Berrettini. The Roman player, recently recovered from injuries, sees this final as a unique chance to prove his worth. "The Davis Cup is not an ordinary tournament, but I have a lot of confidence in these guys," shares Filippo Volandri, the team captain.
Berrettini adds: "It's always an honor to represent Italy. Every match will be complicated, but we are a real team. It's always an honor for me to represent Italy in this competition. I used the possibility of being here as motivation during the recovery process from my physical problems.
I know every match will be complicated, it's a ranking event, it doesn't matter, everyone can surprise because emotions are on the surface and there are always tennis players who exceed expectations."
As a reminder, Italy will face Austria on November 19th in the quarter-finals.
