There was too much going on, Fonseca justifies his absence from the Asian tour

Joao Fonseca is currently in form. After winning the title in Basel last week, he successfully started his campaign at the Rolex Paris Masters against Denis Shapovalov.

The Brazilian is back after a break of more than a month, having decided to skip the Asian tour after the US Open.

In a press conference in Paris, Fonseca justified his absence: "This year was my first year in the big tournaments. One of the things my team and I tried to focus on was determining the weeks we were going to play and the ones we weren't, to focus more on my physical and mental condition.

Yes, I missed Asia. I was sick, but also because of my mental and physical condition. Yes, we didn't go because there was too much going on, the Davis Cup, the Laver Cup.

I was feeling a bit sick, so I didn't go to Shanghai either. Then I started on indoor courts. So yes, there's a lot to do week after week, but it's my first year, so I can't complain.

I'm just really enjoying the tour. But from what I see, many players say it's sometimes too much. This year, we just knew it was going to be very busy and we focused on which weeks we were going to play or not.
