Griekspoor Withdraws Before Facing Zverev in Vienna: World No. 3 Advances to Semis Without Playing
Tallon Griekspoor will not be able to take the court against Alexander Zverev this Friday.
This Friday marks the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 in Vienna. While Alex De Minaur started the day with a straight-sets victory over Matteo Berrettini (6-1, 7-6), the second match was scheduled to pit Alexander Zverev against Tallon Griekspoor, a classic matchup in recent years on the ATP tour.
The two men were indeed set to face each other for the eleventh time (8-2 for the German), but the match will not take place. The Dutchman, suffering from a back injury, was forced to withdraw.
After defeating Karen Khachanov and Brandon Nakashima, the 29-year-old Griekspoor sends Zverev into the semi-finals without playing. The world No. 3 will face the winner between Corentin Moutet and Lorenzo Musetti, who will play in the final match of the day.
We will now have to wait until 5:30 PM to see the next match on the Center Court in the Austrian capital between world No. 2 Jannik Sinner and Alexander Bublik.
