Denis Shapovalov is enjoying one of the most accomplished weeks of his career. The Canadian eliminated Kecmanovic, Fritz, Machac and Paul to reach the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Dallas and will face Casper Ruud for the biggest title of his career so far.
The former world No. 10 in the ATP rankings and Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2021 explains the reasons for his rise to prominence.
"I had a very good pre-season, I felt like I was playing at a high level of tennis at every training session but, unfortunately, I also had a little stomach flu, which broke my momentum a little.
I didn't play at my best at the Australian Open. What's happening in Dallas these days really reflects the level at which I can play, and shows all the work I've put in over the last few weeks.
As far as I'm concerned, everything I've done since then is paying off. I've adopted a fighting mentality this week, so I'm very happy to have finally been able to get back to my best tennis with some great victories.
I'm going to give it my all. I've never won an ATP 500 title, so winning the trophy here would be a big step forward for me.
At the end of the day, the most important thing is to maintain what you've done well throughout the week, which is to bring out your game on court, have fun and do your best," he stressed for Punto De Break.
