Shapovalov: "I'm trying to be smarter in my shot selection".
Denis Shapovalov has always been described as a talented player with early success.
Unfortunately for him, his career came to a screeching halt, mainly due to injury.
The Canadian said he had matured and worked hard to get back to this level: "This success is not only mine, but my team's as well.
Everyone put in a lot of effort so that I could return to competition and feel the necessary confidence in my knee to be able to play at my best.
There were times when I doubted whether I could continue to be a tennis player, so this title means a lot to me because I went through a period when playing tennis without too much pain was impossible.
I'm aware that I have to base my tennis on aggression and taking control of points, but I'm trying to be smarter in my shot selection.
To do that, it's essential to gain confidence, and this week's win over Fritz showed me that I'm capable of beating the best players again."
And what took so long figuring this out? Have you not been listening to your coaches ... or maybe do you need new coaches?
