Record-breaking: Alcaraz-Sinner, the most-watched tennis match of all time in Italy!
The 2025 Masters final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner achieved the highest audience ever recorded on an Italian channel.
There are matches that transcend the sport itself. The one between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals now belongs to that rare category.
Indeed, this match brought together 6.789 million Italians, shattering a record previously considered untouchable, as a tennis match had never generated such a level of enthusiasm in the country.
With 36% of Italian televisions tuned into this clash, Italy experienced a form of sporting communion. The performance is even more impressive considering the match took place while the national football team's first half was being broadcast simultaneously.
And yet, tennis held its own against football, a situation almost unimaginable in a country where the round ball traditionally dominates everything. The Sinner-Alcaraz match reached 91% of the audience of the Squadra Azzurra's match (7.5 million), but performed better in market share: 36% against 34%.
Furthermore, the previous peak dated back to 2023, during the Sinner-Djokovic duel, which had captivated 6.686 million viewers. A record that was already monumental, but has now been erased.
