Binaghi on Sinner and Alcaraz: "There are two number 1s this year"
The president of the Italian Tennis Federation, Angelo Binaghi, spoke about the final of the 2025 Turin Masters.
After a final won by his compatriot Sinner (7-6, 7-5), the 64-year-old man wanted to emphasize that the ranking was no longer sufficient to tell the story of this exceptional season. According to him, Sinner and Alcaraz have taken tennis to a level where merit goes beyond the numbers.
"We can say that there are two number 1s this year. Jannik missed the points from the Shanghai Masters 1000, where he had to withdraw. Otherwise, this final could also have awarded the year-end world number one spot, and that would have been an extraordinary apotheosis.
In 2025, Jannik and Carlos shared two Grand Slam tournaments each. Jannik won the final act that ended the season, Carlos finished number 1. It's an incredible way to start 2026. It's also an extraordinary satisfaction for tens of millions of Italians who followed the final on television."
