The Abyssal Gap Between Sinner, Alcaraz, and the Rest
The 2025 tennis season is nearing its end, and it's time to draw some initial conclusions. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have shared the 4 Grand Slam tournaments as well as the majority of the major tournaments. The two are finishing neck and neck, with Alcaraz leading Sinner by only 500 points (12,000 for the Spaniard and 11,500 for the Italian).
But beyond this rivalry, the other players are struggling immensely to establish themselves. As shown by the ATP ranking below, highlighted in 250-point tiers by the X account Jeu, Set et Maths, the world number 3, Alexander Zverev, is far behind.
As for players like Jack Draper, Lorenzo Musetti, or Felix Auger-Aliassime, they have only been capable of flashes of brilliance during temporary periods.
The question remains whether for the 2026 season some players will be able to reverse this trend of Alcaraz and Sinner's overdominance.
