2026 Australian Open: Diyas wins the qualifying tournament and joins the main draw
This week took place the Asia-Pacific Wild Card Play-Off tournament which allowed the winner to qualify for the main draw of the 2026 Australian Open without going through the qualifiers. Thus, after a week of competition, it was Zarina Diyas, 32 years old, who secured the precious pass by dominating the Taiwanese player En-Shuo Liang (6-3, 6-4).
First participation since 2022 in Melbourne for Diyas
Former world number 31, the native of Almaty will participate in the main draw of the Australian Open for the ninth time in her career. However, this will be her first appearance in Melbourne since 2022, where she was eliminated in her first match against her compatriot Elena Rybakina. Currently ranked 283rd in the world, Diyas has reached the third round four times in Melbourne (2014, 2015, 2020, and 2021).
