6-0, 6-0 in 44 minutes: Anisimova merciless against Putintseva at Wimbledon
In the first round of Wimbledon, Amanda Anisimova and Yulia Putintseva faced off for a spot in the second round. The match could have been tricky for the American against the Kazakh player, who had eliminated Iga Swiatek in the third round of the same tournament last year.
However, the anticipated battle turned into a one-sided affair for the world No. 12. Relentless from start to finish, Anisimova—who did not concede a single break point—was able to impose her game with 18 winners in just 45 minutes of play.
Overwhelmed by the situation, Putintseva managed only one small winner (compared to 14 unforced errors) and left Court 15 without winning a single game.
In the end, the Doha WTA 1000 champion from February triumphed with a double bagel (6-0, 6-0 in 44 minutes) and advanced to the second round, where she will face Renata Zarazua.
As for Putintseva, currently ranked 33rd in the WTA, she will drop to at best 40th after the tournament and suffered her second career double bagel, eight years after the first in New Haven in 2017 against Alizé Cornet.
