65 wins this season, with more to come: how far will Alcaraz go in 2025?
In top form, Carlos Alcaraz has dominated the ATP Tour with an impressive number of victories this season and seven titles won so far. Perhaps waiting to further boost these numbers by the end of the year.
Carlos Alcaraz reclaimed the world number 1 ranking at the US Open. The Spaniard has been in great form this season, performing at an exceptional level since the start of the clay court season in the spring.
Alcaraz has already won seven titles since January (Rotterdam, Monte-Carlo, Rome, Roland-Garros, Queen's, Cincinnati, US Open), while also losing two finals (Barcelona, Wimbledon). The Spaniard has reached the final of every tournament he has played since his opening round loss in Miami to David Goffin.
Impressive, he recently qualified for the semifinals of the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo after a victory against Brandon Nakashima (6-2, 6-4). This also marks the 65th win of the world number 1 this season, allowing him to equal his total number of victories for the entire 2023 season.
Since 2015, only six players have managed to reach this total: Djokovic (82 in 2015 and 65 in 2016), Murray (78 in 2016 and 71 in 2015), Sinner (73 in 2024), Zverev (69 in 2024), Nadal (68 in 2017), and Medvedev (66 in 2023). While we are still in September, Alcaraz can significantly improve this performance.
Alcaraz will face Casper Ruud in the semifinals in Tokyo, and is also expected to compete in the Shanghai and Paris Masters 1000 events, as well as the Davis Cup Final 8 and the ATP Finals. If he maintains his momentum from recent months, Alcaraz could thus achieve one of the best seasons on the ATP Tour in recent years.
Last year, his rival Jannik Sinner won 73 matches over the entire season (with only six losses) and claimed eight trophies on the main tour. The two men, who have dominated world tennis for several years, continue to impress regardless.
