A Challenger to replace the ATP tournament in Metz from 2026?

The ATP 250 tournament in Metz will disappear from the calendar starting next season. However, a new tournament organized in the prefecture of Moselle from 2026 on the Challenger circuit is not an idea to be ruled out at this time.

This week, Metz is hosting its annual ATP tournament. Since 2003, players from the tour have come to Moselle to participate in the Metz event. However, this is the last time Metz will host a tournament on the main tour.

Indeed, as announced last season, the tournament will disappear from the ATP-approved calendar starting next year. A hard blow for the city as well as for French tennis, which had already seen the Lyon tournament removed.

However, tennis could still remain in Metz. Indeed, according to information from Le Républicain Lorrain reported by L'Équipe, the city has not abandoned the idea of organizing a tournament, this time on the Challenger circuit from 2026, at the end of the season as is currently the case for the ATP tournament. A possibility that interests the mayor of Metz, François Grosdidier.

"We are still interested in a major event. If there is a new proposal for a professional tournament, we are interested and enthusiastic. Moreover, I hope that all political, departmental, and regional stakeholders will be as well," he stated to the regional media.

The company TV Sports Events, which already owns the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier and operates the Challenger in Roanne on French soil, would thus be leading this new project. If it comes to fruition, it would allow the Moselle department to remain attractive, since the Thionville Challenger is also organized in March and will upgrade from the CH75 to CH100 category in 2026.

The impact of the war on tennis in Ukraine: financial aid, foundations, governing bodies and all‑round headaches

Since February 2022 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Ukrainian sport has been heavily affected by human, structural and economic losses. Tennis has, of course, not been spared. While Ukrainian athletes have had to rethink their entire organization, an entire country, behind the scenes, has had to adapt and change its training conditions. This extends all the way to the highest level, where professional players have spoken out, trying as best they can to help their nation.

Training future champions: spotlight on the decline of the French public model facing private academies

As federations struggle to reinvent themselves, private academies are capturing talent… but also families able to invest tens of thousands of euros a year. A system that is increasingly effective, but also increasingly unequal.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
