"There are many good things to take away," says Tabur after his quarter-final defeat in Metz
Clément Tabur's impressive run in Metz came to an end in the quarter-finals. Having come through the qualifying rounds, the last Frenchman standing in Moselle fell in three sets against Vitaliy Sachko, but he hasn't forgotten his great week because of it.
Tabur wasn't so far from his first ATP Tour semi-final. The Frenchman, who had beaten Vitaliy Sachko in the final round of qualifying, was eliminated by that same Ukrainian player (6-4, 3-6, 6-4).
After beating Aleksandar Kovacevic (6-3, 6-2) and Alexander Blockx (6-7, 7-6, 7-6), the world No. 243 was therefore eliminated by Sachko, but that doesn't change all the good things he achieved throughout the week at the final tournament in Metz.
"There was a lot of tension on the first game, for sure that didn't help me start the match. But in the end it only lasted one game, so that means I learned from my previous experiences.
Nevertheless, I didn't have the same feelings as on court number 1 (where he had played his first four matches), so I didn't really manage to establish the game I wanted. There's a bit of disappointment about that, but I think he played his match and I fought with the weapons I had that day. I'll remember that.
There are many good things to take away, yes. I didn't expect to do this, I surprised myself. This needs to give me confidence and I need to build on this.
I need to convince myself that I am capable of doing this now, of doing this all year. I'm looking forward to having a good preparation and starting in January in Australia," Tabur assured after his elimination, speaking for L'Équipe.
