"A day I will never forget," Garcia reflects on her last singles match at Roland-Garros

Monday afternoon, Caroline Garcia played her last match at Roland-Garros. At 31, the Frenchwoman has decided to turn the page and will retire in the coming weeks.
On Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Garcia, lacking rhythm on clay after a back injury, gave it her all but eventually lost to Bernarda Pera (6-4, 6-4).
Emotion got the better of her in this match, and the 2022 WTA Finals winner couldn't hold back her tears when she stepped onto the court. In her post-match speech, Garcia made sure to thank the supporters present for cheering her on, before posting a message on her X (formerly Twitter) account this Tuesday morning.
"Yesterday, I couldn't win. But I won something else: a day I will never forget. Sharing the court with you one more time, feeling all your support and love, was unforgettable.
In the end, that's what sports are about. Giving your best and fighting until the end. One of my dreams has always been to win Roland-Garros. I did it twice in doubles, but I never managed to do it in singles.
However, what I did was give it my all. And that's why today, I can leave with a smile, proud of what I have achieved. Because you can't control the results, but you can always control the effort and determination you put into it. Thank you once again.
And it’s not over yet. Today, it's time for doubles with my friend Diane Parry. I'm excited! If you're around, come support us on court 3. Thank you to everyone. I wouldn't be here without you. With all my love, Caro," she wrote on the social network.
