Jeanjean advances to the second round of Roland-Garros after a stunning comeback

For the fourth consecutive year, Léolia Jeanjean has earned the opportunity to compete in the main draw, benefiting from a wild-card for this 2025 edition.
The French player was set to face Irina-Camelia Begu, an opponent she lost to in the third round of the tournament in 2022. The match started poorly for Jeanjean, who suffered a 6-0 defeat in the first set.
Stung into action, the world No. 100 then held her ground and, after successfully breaking serve three times, claimed the second set 7-5. This turnaround allowed her to start the final set with confidence, quickly taking a 3-0 lead.
It was at this point that Begu, injured, decided to retire. With this first Grand Slam victory since 2023, Jeanjean climbs to the 89th spot in the WTA rankings, her career-best ranking. She will face Daria Kasatkina in the next round.
