For the second consecutive year, Naomi Osaka was eliminated in the first round of the French Open, despite a strong fight against Paula Badosa, ranked 10th in the world.
The Japanese player, coached by Patrick Mouratoglou, appeared very emotional in the press conference following this early defeat:
"As time goes by, I feel like I should be improving. I may have talked about this a few years ago, but I hate disappointing people. Naturally, I think about Patrick. He goes from coaching the best player in the world to... what is this?"
The Japanese player, who left the press room for a moment, was also asked about her upcoming tournaments: "I have no idea about my grass-court schedule. I didn't expect to lose in the first round, so I'll have to think about that. But I will be happy to play my next match on grass.
