"A Monday final is absolutely absurd," Stubbs slams ATP's choices
The decision to schedule the Cincinnati tournament final on Monday is clearly not to everyone's taste. Rennae Stubbs, a former Australian player, criticized the organization in a post on her social media:
"A Monday final is absolutely absurd! I’m sure the US Open isn’t happy either. This hurts fan week and maybe even the mixed doubles tournament, in which they’ve invested a lot of money and fans paid to see these names. Tennis really needs a commissioner!"
For context, following the new 12-day Masters 1000 reform, tournaments are now scheduled across two weeks. This choice is justified by the goal of increasing revenue and giving players more rest between matches.
It’s worth noting that Monte-Carlo and the Rolex Paris Masters are the only tournaments in this category still played over a single week.
