A Speck of Dust in the Eye Behind Alcaraz's Struggles in the Roland-Garros Final?
Carlos Alcaraz is currently trailing two sets to love against Jannik Sinner in the Roland-Garros final.
The battle was tight in the first set, but a minor incident visibly threw Alcaraz off his game. At 4-3, 15-15, the world No. 2 had to pause while serving, seemingly bothered by a speck of dust or perhaps some clay that had gotten into his right eye.
Two games later, with Sinner leading 5-4, Alcaraz called for a medical timeout (MTO) to address the issue, as the Spaniard kept touching his eye.
Despite the MTO and some eye drops to relieve the discomfort, he completely faltered in his next service game, handing the first set to his opponent.
He then lost momentum in the second set, trailing 5-2, before mounting a comeback. However, the tie-break swung in Sinner's favor, leaving him just one set away from his first Roland-Garros title.
