A statue of Federer at Wimbledon? Evert has another idea
Roger Federer wrote much of his legend at Wimbledon.
The Swiss champion, who has won 20 Grand Slam titles, is the record holder of the number of trophies won at the London Grand Slam in the Open era on the ATP circuit.
Federer triumphed on 8 occasions in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2017, beating out Pete Sampras and Novak Djokovic (both 7 crowns).
While the GOAT debate is never far away when it comes to the Big 3, a tennis fan asked a question which, in the process, launched a debate on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
The questioner wondered whether a statue of Roger Federer should be built on the campus of the British Major, following his many exploits on the London turf.
Women's tennis legend Chris Evert, who has won 18 Grand Slam titles in her career, including three at Wimbledon, suggested another name.
"What about Martina Navratilova, who won Wimbledon 9 times?" tweeted the 70-year-old American. The post was liked almost 30,000 times on the social network.
