Roddick on McEnroe's winning percentage in 1984: "I don't think anyone will do better".
Andy Roddick continues to analyze tennis.
Retired from the courts since 2012, the former world No. 1 now hosts a podcast in which he discusses all the latest topics on the little yellow ball.
This time, the 2003 US Open winner talked about one of the few tennis records that will never be broken.
After having seen Sinner achieve an exceptional season (73 wins for just 6 losses, a winning percentage of 92.4%), Roddick asserted that John McEnroe's performance in 1984 (13 titles, 82 wins in 85 matches and 96.5% success rate) will be hard to come by.
"There's only one record that hasn't been broken, and I don't think anyone will beat it. It's the highest winning percentage on the ATP circuit in a single season.
If we recap the best years of all time, we had Roger Federer in 2005 and 2006 as well as Novak Djokovic in 2011 and 2015, not forgetting Rod Laver who had made the calendar Grand Slam.
But nobody did better than John McEnroe, who won 82 matches and lost just 3 in 1984.
He had won Wimbledon and the US Open, and was just one win and one set away from winning the French Open, but lost to Ivan Lendl.
What's more, it was his first defeat of the season after 42 consecutive wins", he analyzed.
