Berdych on the Sinner-Alcaraz rivalry: "It can only be good for tennis".
Tomas Berdych talks about the new generation.
The former Czech player, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2010 and world No. 4 in 2015, talked about the evolution of the game and the budding rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
"I think the game has changed, that's for sure. I'd say the game has become less creative. If you look at the top 10 players, you won't notice many differences between them.
That's my point of view. I'm not saying it's good or bad. It's the way it is, because it's definitely a new generation that has taken over men's tennis, and that's the way they play.
And if you ask me if I'm capable of playing or if I'd like to compare my younger version of myself to them now, I'd love to. It would also be a great experience to play with all these guys.
But those comparisons are hard to make because they'll never happen. There are new guys with different playing styles, so let's see how it all evolves.
There has to be a rivalry, and that can only be good for tennis. The most important one right now is Alcaraz-Sinner, and they can only become better players.
If it was just Sinner, it would be difficult for him to keep his game motivated. So I think it's good.
I hope there will be more in the future to make sure that tennis will be in a good period," said Jiri Lehecka's former coach for Tennis Majors.
