"A tremendously difficult decision to make," Badosa announces her withdrawal from the US Open
Absent since Wimbledon, Paula Badosa will ultimately miss the entire North American tour.
The Spaniard officially confirmed her withdrawal from the US Open today, having already withdrawn from the tournaments in Washington, Montreal, and Cincinnati. A quarterfinalist in New York last year, the 24-year-old player will lose valuable ranking points and drift further from the top 10, which she had re-entered earlier this season.
"It is with a heavy heart that I announce my withdrawal from this year’s US Open. This decision has been extremely difficult to make. After the journey I had last year and the connection I feel with the fans and the city, stepping away from this tournament is very emotional for me.
The US Open has always held great significance for me, and I’ve created unforgettable memories there. I want to thank everyone for their support. Now, I must focus on my health and recovery so I can come back stronger and ready to compete again," Badosa wrote on Instagram.
