Abramowicz (mental coach) on meeting Swiatek. Swiatek: "As soon as I met her, I saw the flame".
Daria Abramowicz knows Iga Swiatek well. A member of the world number 1's team for several years, the mental coach agreed to talk about her encounter with the current queen of the WTA Tour.
With Swiatek having just won her fourth French Open title, her third in a row, Abramowicz explained that she noticed immediately that the 23-year-old had something the other players didn't have. She declared: "As soon as I met her, I saw the flame. I saw the fire. She was all over the place, trying to do everything at once, and I thought, 'Oh, my God, what's going on?' And then she went out on the court, locked herself in, and I thought, 'Now we can talk'.
The hardest part was reaching her potential. Such great potential, but with few resources, there was a lot of work to be done. It's still fascinating because she's not yet a complete tennis player, nor a complete athlete, nor a fully mature human being because she's only 23.
Yet she's already at the top of her game. It's really fascinating to continue working with Iga."
