"Against Jannik, I feel like I have a chance to play tennis," Fritz compares Sinner to Alcaraz
World No. 5 Taylor Fritz is currently competing at the ATP 250 tournament in Eastbourne. Two weeks after winning the title in Stuttgart, the American aims to build confidence ahead of Wimbledon.
While his match against João Fonseca was interrupted by darkness at one set apiece, Fritz was asked in an interview about the Alcaraz-Sinner rivalry. The 27-year-old had to choose the toughest opponent to face between the two best players in the world currently on the ATP tour.
For context, Fritz has faced Carlos Alcaraz twice (2-0 for the Spaniard in their head-to-head) and Jannik Sinner five times (4-1 for the Italian, who has won their last four meetings in a row).
"I’d say Carlos (Alcaraz) is the tougher opponent for me to face. I should add that when we played against each other at the Laver Cup last year, I faced his best version—where it felt like there was nothing I could do.
Of course, Jannik (Sinner) has beaten me multiple times already. He’s powerful and energetic, but at least against him, I feel like I have a chance to play tennis. At the Laver Cup against Carlos, for 80 or even 90% of the match, I felt like I couldn’t do anything," Fritz told *The Guardian*.
