Alcaraz confides: "I didn't want to touch a racket".
Carlos Alcaraz had a rather chaotic month of August. Visibly affected by his defeat by Djokovic in the final of the Olympic Games, the Spaniard followed this up with a first-round elimination in Cincinnati and a second-round exit at the US Open.
Fortunately for him, he got his head back on straight. After helping Spain qualify for the Davis Cup finals, Alcaraz led the European team to victory in the Laver Cup and has just won the ATP 500 in Beijing, beating Jannik Sinner in the final (6-7, 6-4, 7-6).
Questioned in a press conference, the El Palmar prodigy went back over this bad patch: "After the North American tour, I was a bit depressed, I didn't want to touch a racket for a while, I didn't want to travel.
We talked a lot during those days, knowing that I had to get back to training, be stronger physically and mentally to overcome those moments.
Over the last month, we've been working very hard, both on and off the court, to be able to relive a moment like that.
That's why I think my coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, was moved; it was a special moment for me and the people around me."
