Alcaraz: "I never doubted my ability to compete on equal terms with Jannik indoors"
Carlos Alcaraz was defeated by Jannik Sinner this Sunday at the ATP Finals in Turin. Although indoor courts are not his preferred surface and he is still seeking his first ATP Finals title, the Spaniard delivered a strong performance.
When asked about his progress on this surface during the press conference, he replied: "Yes, first of all, I never doubt myself. I never doubt my level indoors. I never doubted my ability to play and compete on equal terms with Jannik indoors.
From the beginning of the match, and right after it, I thought I could beat him, that I could compete with him here. I wasn't surprised at all to be so close to victory. It was just a question of tennis.
I am really happy with my performance today. I am convinced that my level indoors will continue to improve. I clearly felt Jannik's improvements. I've said it several times, I think a player like him always comes back stronger after a defeat.
He always learns from his defeats. Once again, he showed everyone that he is capable of that. Especially on serve, where he puts a lot of pressure. It's obviously very difficult to play against him."
