Alcaraz is already back on track against Sinner!
Carlos Alcaraz has finally woken up. Without playing his best tennis, the Spaniard took full advantage of Jannik Sinner's surprising slump (2 winners, 11 unforced errors).
Putting more weight into his strokes, it was, unlike in the first set, the 21-year-old who distributed the play rather than the Italian. More solid than his opponent, he was able to apply the necessary intensity to win the second set (2-6, 6-3 after 1h29 of play).
In a match of lower quality than might have been expected, the two men are currently playing a game of communicating vessels: they never play well at the same time.
After a thunderous start to the match, the Italian curiously began to flag physically. Leading by a set and a break, he lost his intensity. Defending with inferior quality and putting less commitment into his ball-striking, the Transalpine was outplayed by a very opportunistic Spaniard (conceding the last 6 games of the set).
Even seeming to drag his feet at times, Alcaraz quite logically stepped into the breach. Without dazzling with his talent, the Spanish prodigy did the essential, showing himself to be much more aggressive and taking advantage of an opponent who was much less solid in defense (14 winners, 13 unforced errors).
Everything remains to be done on the Chatrier, where the two players are now back to back!
