Sinner takes command of Alcaraz!
Could Jannik Sinner have dreamed of a better start to the match? The Italian got the match off to a flying start and gave Alcaraz no breathing space. Winning the first act after just 40 minutes (6-2), the Transalpine was already a third of the way towards Sunday's final.
Buoyed by an excellent first ball (89% of points won on his first serve), Sinner missed almost nothing, except at the end of the set (9 winners, 9 unforced errors).
Covering his court superbly, he distributed play very well on both sides, responding perfectly to all the ball-strikes proposed by his Spanish rival. Taking advantage of a rather nervous and inaccurate Alcaraz (9 winners, 12 unforced errors), he initially took control of the set (4-0). When his opponent came back strongly and quickly recovered a break (4-2), he didn't panic, breaking for the third time in the set.
Simply too strong, it's only logical that the future world number 1 should already be leading.
