Alcaraz tired after his victory: "It was a very physically demanding match"
Alcaraz qualified for the quarterfinals of the Rome tournament for the first time by defeating Khachanov in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 7-5). He secured his twelfth win in thirteen matches on clay this season. At the same time, he joins the list of players who have reached the quarterfinals of all Masters 1000 events.
Speaking to the ATP after the match, the Spaniard shared his thoughts following his performance:
"It's incredible to win in the end like this against a very tough opponent like Karen Khachanov. It was a very physically demanding match, with a lot of intensity. I had to run a lot, so I was very proud of the outcome. I lost focus at the end of the second set, and I’m happy I was able to reset in the next one."
Facing Draper in the next round, he spoke about the difficulty of the upcoming duel. The world number three holds a 3-2 record against the Brit but is coming off a loss to him at Indian Wells this year:
"Jack is playing really well, his level is very high. I need to be ready for this big battle. He’s really different from the others, so I’ll have to bring my best tennis. My record is good, but every match is different. The last time I played him, I lost, so I have to learn from that to do better."
