Alcaraz with Federer and Djokovic, Medvedev in the top 5, the key figures from the Indian Wells semifinals
The men's semifinal matchups will feature Holger Rune against Daniil Medvedev on one side, and Jack Draper against Carlos Alcaraz on the other. The Dane and the Russian will take to the court first.
The stakes of these matchups are very high for all four players, as each of them has the opportunity to set a new record. Indeed, the newspaper L’Équipe has revealed the key figures from the men's semifinals at Indian Wells:
Carlos Alcaraz could become the third player to win the Indian Wells Masters three times in a row. He would join Roger Federer (2004-2006) and Novak Djokovic (2014-2016).
But that's not all. If he wins the final, the Spaniard would be ranked No. 1 in the 2025 Race, tied with Jannik Sinner.
Jack Draper could place himself among the top five highest-ranked British players in ATP history. If he qualifies for the final and Rune does not win the tournament, he would enter the ATP top 10.
The Brit would thus join Greg Rusedski (4th in 1997), Tim Henman (4th in 2002), Andy Murray (1st in 2016), and Cameron Norrie (8th in 2022).
Daniil Medvedev could end the 665-day gap between his last title won in Rome (May 21, 2023) and this Sunday's final. Additionally, a victory on Sunday would allow him to return to the world's top 5.
Holger Rune hopes to qualify for his fourth Masters 1000 final. This would be a significant milestone, as it would bring him back into the world's top 8. This week, he notably defeated his first top 10 player (Tsitsipas, 9th) on an outdoor hard court.
