"An Exceptional Volley": Djokovic Can Only Applaud Monfils at Brisbane 2025
The 2025 Brisbane tournament featured a clash between Novak Djokovic and Gaël Monfils in the second round.
Known for spectacular shots, the Frenchman did not hesitate to amaze the spectators on site.
Indeed, early in the second set, Djokovic, imperial in defense, thought he had locked up the point, but Monfils, a fine technician, responded with an exceptional volley.
The reaction of the former world number one illustrated the moment: Djokovic, very fair-play, applauded.
Despite this gesture, Monfils once again lost to the Grand Slam record holder (6-3, 6-3), bringing his record to 0-20 against him. But what we remember is the Frenchman's ability to electrify the entire stadium with a single point.
