Andreescu operated on and out until clay-court season
Bianca Andreescu had announced her return to the Mérida tournament, where she had been awarded a wild-card. She was absent for personal reasons.
Unfortunately for her, she won't be able to take part. She had to undergo an appendectomy, a treatment for appendicitis, which involves removing the infected appendix.
She said in a statement: "Hello everyone, quick update.
Training was going so well and I was excited to play in Merida, which was my first tournament of the 2025 season.
Unfortunately, I suffered unexpected severe stomach pains, which led to an emergency appendectomy.
The operation went well and I'm on the road to recovery.
My plan is to return for the clay-court season, stronger than ever. Thank you all for your support. I can't wait to get back to competition!"
