Mirra Andreeva showed impressive maturity to emerge victorious from a tough mental and physical battle with Aryna Sabalenka in the quarter-finals of the French Open (6-7, 6-4, 6-4).

Displaying unfailing calm, the 17-year-old Russian managed to negotiate the key moments better than the world No.2 at the end of the match. Much to the delight of the Court Philippe Chartier crowd, who were thrilled by the teenager's level of play.

Mirra Andreeva: "Honestly, at the moment, I forgot what the score was. Because I really tried not to focus on it. On my second match point, I tried to think that I was saving a break point. I tried to play bravely and I managed to win.

I was really nervous before the match. I knew she was going to have an advantage, especially with the support of the court crowd. But actually, I was a bit surprised, because you (the spectators) were cheering me on too (laughs). Honestly, I wasn't expecting that, so thank you so much for encouraging me today."

The impact of the war on tennis in Ukraine: financial aid, foundations, governing bodies and all‑round headaches

Since February 2022 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Ukrainian sport has been heavily affected by human, structural and economic losses. Tennis has, of course, not been spared. While Ukrainian athletes have had to rethink their entire organization, an entire country, behind the scenes, has had to adapt and change its training conditions. This extends all the way to the highest level, where professional players have spoken out, trying as best they can to help their nation.

A tennis player's income depends solely on his sporting results. In the event of injury, the daily life of those far from the Top 100 can become extremely complicated.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
