Andreeva Dominates Krueger and Reaches the Third Round at Roland-Garros

On Court Simonne-Mathieu, Mirra Andreeva kicked off the day against Ashlyn Krueger, aiming to reach the Roland-Garros round of 16 for the third consecutive time.
Despite a shaky start, which saw the American take a 3-1 lead, the 18-year-old Russian player quickly found her rhythm, winning six consecutive games. The world No. 6 thought she had done the hard part, but the WTA’s 35th-ranked player fought back, immediately breaking twice in the second set.
However, Krueger was too inconsistent to trouble Andreeva further (31 unforced errors, 4 double faults). A final break at 4-4 allowed the Russian to seal the match on her serve (6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour and 13 minutes) and advance to the third round.
With 18 winners and 22 unforced errors today, the winner of this year’s Dubai and Indian Wells tournaments tightened her game at the right moments to secure victory in straight sets.
Andreeva confirmed her strong form after defeating Cristina Bucsa (6-4, 6-3) in the first round and will now face Yulia Putintseva or Joanna Garland for a spot in the last 16. Last year, she reached the semifinals before falling to Jasmine Paolini.
