Andreeva Dreads Her 18th Birthday: "I Don’t Want to Be Responsible for Myself"
Mirra Andreeva secured her spot in the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 in Madrid this Saturday.
A true sensation early this year after winning tournaments in Dubai and Indian Wells, the Russian will celebrate her 18th birthday next Tuesday—a milestone she doesn’t seem eager to reach:
"I don’t want to be responsible for myself (laughs). The Mirra from twelve months ago was amazed by how she played on the court. But now, I can rely on myself more. I was also surprised by beating the top players.
Now, I trust myself more on the court. I have more confidence, but it’s not self-esteem. It’s confidence in my tennis. I’m happy to know that you see progress."
