Anisimova Gets Revenge on Swiatek and Reaches the US Open Semifinals

Amanda Anisimova is the second American player to qualify for the US Open semifinals after her straight-sets victory over world No. 2 Iga Swiatek (6-4, 6-3).
The two players met again just under two months after their Wimbledon final, which had turned into a rout for Anisimova (6-0, 6-0). But on a completely different surface and with the support of the crowd, the world No. 8 played with much more freedom.
Broken early in each set, Anisimova quickly erased the deficit and dictated play throughout the match. Aggressive in rallies (23 winners), the 24-year-old did not give Swiatek time to impose her game plan.
Two breaks late in each set (at 5-4 and 4-3) allowed Anisimova to clinch the win in 1 hour and 36 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium. A fine redemption for the American, who reaches her first-ever semifinal in New York and the third Grand Slam semifinal of her career. She will play tomorrow for a spot in the final against Naomi Osaka or Karolina Muchova.
Swiatek exits the US Open in the quarterfinals for the second year in a row at the hands of a local player, having been defeated last year by Jessica Pegula. The Polish player was among the favorites for the title, having won the Cincinnati tournament in August.
After 0-6, 0-6 loss, Amanda came back strong and beat the same player. Wow! This is an inspiration for many players.
