aolini to challenge Swiatek in the French Open final!
Unlike her opponent of the day, Jasmine Paolini never wavered. Confident, she played the perfect match. Very solid from the baseline and incisive on the forehand, the Italian completely muzzled a Mirra Andreeva who was a little taken by the event (6-3, 6-1 in 1h14).
Buoyed by her fiery enthusiasm, the Russian had previously played with carefree efficiency. This was not the case on Thursday. Very tense and generally powerless in the face of her opponent's play, the 17-year-old completely collapsed. Her age and lack of experience simply got the better of her, and she lost by a landslide. In tears, Andreeva didn't linger on the court, visibly disappointed by her level of tennis (11 winners, 30 unforced errors).
For her part, the Transalpine delivered an impressive performance. Visibly very serene, she recited her tennis with ease (14 winners, 9 unforced errors). Taking advantage of an opponent who was far too inconsistent, she didn't need to force her talent and reached the final with great serenity.
Although she's been quite impressive since the start of the tournament, she's going to face quite a mountain on Saturday. For her first major final of her career, she'll be up against the indestructible Iga Swiatek. A David versus Goliath match.
