Qualified for the round of 16 in Umag, the site of his first ATP title, Stan Wawrinka has defied age limits. At 40, the Swiss player defeated Guillén Meza (6-4, 6-1) to secure his 2nd win on the main tour this season.

A performance that places him 4th on the list of the oldest players to win an ATP match since 1990. These statistics exclude Davis Cup matches.

Indeed, the three-time Grand Slam champion trails behind Lopez (41 years and 9 months), Karlovic (42 years and 4 months), and Connors (42 years and 9 months).

While many question the Swiss player's determination to keep competing despite his struggles, Wawrinka himself doesn’t hesitate to respond to his critics on social media, as seen in the X post below.

I propose the following changes to the rules:

1...a walķover will not be a loss. We have no control of player's health. If he or she is entered in a contest we expect them to play.

2...an incomplete match is not a loss. If a player forfeits we pick another match if there are more to choose.

3...this also applies if TT cancels a match. TT will not take hours to decide an outcome.
