ATP 250 Bastad Draw: Cerundolo and Griekspoor as Top Seeds, Borges Returns to Defend Title

The end of Wimbledon marks the start of a very brief European clay-court swing before players head to the American continent for the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters 1000 events, followed by the US Open.
In Bastad, Sweden, last year’s tournament was highlighted by the participation of legend Rafael Nadal. This year, the field appears more open than ever, with many clay-court specialists set to compete.
Nuno Borges won the title last year against Nadal and will logically return to aim for a repeat. Seeded No. 3, he receives a bye before facing either Elmer Moller or a qualifier.
World No. 19 Francisco Cerundolo is the top seed and will open against either Tomas Barrios Vera or his compatriot Mariano Navone. The Argentine will look to regain confidence after a streak of four consecutive losses since late May.
In the bottom half of the draw, Tallon Griekspoor, who won a clay-court title this season in Marrakech, received a relatively favorable draw. He will begin his campaign against Jaime Faria or a qualifier, with a potential quarterfinal clash against world No. 78 Vit Kopriva.
Also notable are the participations of the Ymer brothers, Elias and Mikael, who received wild cards from the organizers. They will face Tristan Boyer and Botic Van de Zandschulp, respectively. Finally, Hugo Gaston, the lone Frenchman in the draw, will take on Chun-Hsin Tseng in the first round.
