ATP 500 Acapulco: A Machac-Davidovich Fokina Matchup in the Final

The Acapulco tournament held some surprises throughout the week. Several top-seeded players exited Mexico prematurely.
Due to food poisoning, Casper Ruud and Tommy Paul withdrew from the tournament mid-way, while Holger Rune retired early in his match against Brandon Nakashima.
Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, and Frances Tiafoe did not fare any better, losing to Learner Tien, David Goffin, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, respectively.
The draw opened up, and it benefited two players who will contest the final this Saturday. Having already reached the final in Delray Beach a few days ago, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will have the chance to open his account on the ATP circuit.
After eliminating Mattia Bellucci (1-6, 7-6, 6-2), Frances Tiafoe (6-3, 6-7, 6-3), and Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez (6-2, 6-2), the Spaniard reached his second final in 2025 following his semi-final victory over Denis Shapovalov (7-6, 7-6).
To try to win the first title of his career, Davidovich Fokina will face Tomas Machac. The Czech, seeded number 8, defeated Jakub Mensik (6-4, 2-6, 6-3), Daniel Altmaier (7-6, 6-1), and Learner Tien (6-3, 7-5) to reach the final four.
He then beat Brandon Nakashima (6-4, 1-6, 6-4) to reach his second ATP final after losing in Geneva against Ruud last year. He becomes the first Czech to reach the final in Mexico since Jiri Novak in 1998.
Regardless of the outcome, the winner of this grand final will win their very first career title, all in the ATP 500 category.
The two players have faced each other before at the end of last season in Shanghai, and it was Machac who won (1-6, 7-6, 6-4).
