ATP Basel: Jakub Mensik withdraws, Joao Fonseca directly qualified
The ATP 500 tournament in Basel is missing an exciting second-round matchup.
After winning against Swiss player Bernet in three tough sets (7-6, 6-7, 6-3) in his opening match, Jakub Mensik was set to face the rising star Joao Fonseca in the second round.
However, the 20-year-old player withdrew just hours before the match due to a foot injury.
As a result, Fonseca is directly qualified for the quarterfinals. He will face the winner of the match between Shapovalov and Royer.
It's worth noting that the Brazilian will be playing his second ATP 500 quarterfinal, his first on hard court.
