"I felt like I had lost a bit of rhythm," says Shelton, returning from injury
Ben Shelton won his first match since his injury last August at the US Open. Satisfied with his performance, the American spoke about his physical condition.
"It was a tough match. I knew it would be difficult. It was my first win since my injury. I'm really happy to have been able to get back on track and regain confidence in Switzerland.
This is really important for me. When you're trying to get back into rhythm, it can be tough, especially when you're playing against players in top form at the end of the season and you've been absent for a few weeks.
I felt like I had lost a bit of rhythm, but I did excellent preparation for this tournament to be fit and ready to compete. Even if I had lost, I would have been satisfied with how I fought and played."
Shelton will face Jaume Munar in the next round.
