Auger-Aliassime's Coach on Sinner: "He's Really a Metronome"
In an interview with Eurosport France, Frédéric Fontang, the coach of Felix Auger-Aliassime, had a word about Jannik Sinner, who defeated his player in the final of the Rolex Paris Masters.
The French coach did not hesitate to compare him to Novak Djokovic: "He has managed to find a stability in his game, in the three main components (serve, forehand, backhand), that he didn't have before.
He's really a metronome. He more or less always repeats the same patterns, the same crosscourt and down-the-line zones, and he differs a bit in this sense from Carlos Alcaraz, who is more about unpredictability and changes of pace.
But he does it with a higher speed compared to the others, consistently and with great energy efficiency. The key, for him, has been to improve his physicality.
He has always had that ball quality, that timing which allows him to move the ball forward effortlessly. A bit like Djokovic, but with more speed. He has always been very strong mentally too, with that great emotional stability.
But at the start of his career, he was often injured and he struggled to finish the big matches. He has managed to significantly improve on that. He and Carlos remain above, with a gap over the others for now.
But Felix is one of the players who can come and challenge him. We are working very hard for that."
