Azarenka provides an update after her withdrawal in Miami: "It will take a little more time for me to fully recover"
Victoria Azarenka was forced to retire during her second-round match at the WTA 1000 in Miami against Karolina Muchova.
The 35-year-old player, who suffered a shoulder injury in the first set, broke down in tears on the court, unable to continue the match.
Muchova even carried her bag to the locker room—a gesture the Belarusian made sure to mention when discussing the severity of her injury on her X (formerly Twitter) account:
"Quick update on my injury: I’ve gone through the diagnostic phase and have started rehab. The good news is there are no long-term effects, but it will take a little more time for me to fully recover.
I appreciate all your messages and the support you’ve shown me. Thank you to Karolina, my opponent, for her kindness and sportsmanship.
Injuries are part of our job. Even though it’s tough, I’m focusing on overcoming this challenge and working hard to see where it takes me."
