Badosa replaces Zheng and will partner Draper in US Open mixed doubles, Kyrgios/Osaka pair withdrawn from participants
At the US Open, the mixed doubles format will be different from previous years. As a result, many singles stars will participate in the tournament during the week before the start of the first round in the singles draws.
A decision that is not unanimous, particularly among regular doubles players who will largely be absent from the draw and feel sidelined. However, several last-minute changes have occurred in recent hours.
Initially paired with Stefanos Tsitsipas, Paula Badosa rejoins the lineup and will now compete alongside Jack Draper. The Brit was already registered but was originally set to partner Zheng Qinwen.
However, the Chinese player, who recently underwent elbow surgery, will not be in New York this year and is no longer on the list of participating pairs in the US Open’s new mixed doubles format.
Compared to the latest update on the duos taking part in the event, another change has occurred. Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios are no longer on the list revealed by the US Open this Tuesday.
Frequently injured in recent years, Nick Kyrgios—who only played doubles in Washington alongside Gaël Monfils—may not be fit to compete.
As a result, two final teams are still to be confirmed by the organizers. Eight pairs have secured direct entry into the draw based on their rankings: Navarro/Sinner, Badosa/Draper, Swiatek/Ruud, Rybakina/Fritz, Anisimova/Rune, Bencic/Zverev, Pegula/Paul, and Andreeva/Medvedev.
The six other pairs confirmed by the organizers have received wild cards: Raducanu/Alcaraz, Keys/Tiafoe, Danilovic/Djokovic, Townsend/Shelton, Errani/Vavassori (the defending champions), and V. Williams/Opelka.
