Paula Badosa has made a dazzling comeback on the tennis scene.
At the start of 2024, the Spaniard was ranked 100th in the world after a back injury, but she has gone from strength to strength, winning the Washington tournament in the summer before reaching the quarter-finals of the US Open.
Back in the top 10, the 27-year-old got the year off to a flying start by reaching her first-ever Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open, where Aryna Sabalenka put an end to her formidable run.
Speaking to Tennis Insider Club, the former world number 2 shared her ambitions for the current season.
"Physically and mentally, I was in a very dark, very sad moment. I remember not even wanting to leave my room.
At one point, I said to myself: 'Let's see what happens if I give it 100%'. I tried to draw strength from wherever I could to regain that power and energy.
I told myself to finish the year, to see how I finished the season. Last year, it was a bit painful to be so close to the WTA Finals, but of course, I couldn't have asked for anything better.
I started winning matches after six months of competition, so I started performing a bit late.
So I'm hoping that this year, I'll be able to take action right from the start of the season. I hope to be able to play in the WTA Finals in Riyadh.
After all my difficulties, especially in recent years, to get back into the top 10, coming back to this level makes me realize that I'm much stronger than I thought," she assures us.
